.... it's been quite a while since I've been in your inbox but much has been happening!
I had the most wonderful trip to Japan, so many highlights! but from an art perspective the week I spent at a workshop at the Awagami Paper Factory on Shikoku Island was just magic!
The workshop was organised by Jo Horswill from Paper Cloth Studios and we spent three days learning to make paper and some time in the print studio. You can read about my paper making experience in this blog post (with lots of photos!)
After the workshop, artist friend Eva and I traveled back to Tokyo taking in as much art, gardens and culture as possible! We arrived home exhausted but in love with Japan!
It has taken me a while to get back to work but have finished the year with some new Secret Garden series works on paper .... totally inspired by and using some of the paper I made in Japan .....
This week DRAW 24 comes to a close at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery - it has been a terrific year of drawing with teacher Linda Dening ... so many different projects to work on and always something to learn! The class works were great fun and look amazing in the gallery!
A return to Drawing Class in 2025 is just one of the things I am looking forward to in the New Year!
I have a plan to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art to see the Julie Mehretu exhibition. Julie Mehretu is known for her large scale works which involve many intricate layers, a time intensive process which she describes as "a stratified, tectonic geology in the paintings, with the characters themselves buried - as if they were fossils"
Most of January and February will be about getting ready for a joint exhibition with one of my textile artist friends at SHAC in Robertson in March!
I hope you have a happy and relaxing Festive Season and can find some time for art and a good book!
I'll be back with more art and new work in the New Year!
