Mangroves and Must See Exhibition ....

Hi Reader,

.... finally some of that lovely Autumn weather we had been hoping for arrived in May and I made the most of it with some clear sunny days at the mangroves and Moona Moona Creek on Jervis Bay!

I particularly love visiting the mangroves, there is something very calming and peaceful sitting out on the boardwalk drawing! It is different each time I visit .... varying with the tide, the weather and where I am sitting. Most recently the tide was out and the little mangrove crabs were busy feeding!

The Mangroves series is starting to come together and I am really enjoying the process ...

I have been continuing to use some natural pigments in these works ... enjoying the textures they help create. You can read more about this in my May Art Journal Post ....

Out and About

I was delighted to attend the Opening of 'Staying with the Trouble' at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery a couple of weeks ago. This is an exhibition by four artists .... Linda Dening - my drawing teacher, Kim Mahood, Sally Simpson and Wendy Teakel.

It is a masterclass in the art of drawing! Each of these artists takes a very different approach and there is so much to see and appreciate! I will be visiting again! The exhibition is on until July 5 and well worth a visit!

Other Good Things

While exploring 'Staying with the Trouble', I discovered that artist Kim Mahood is also an excellent writer and I am greatly enjoying her book 'Position Doubtful - Mapping landscapes and memories' .... stories of the Tanami Desert country in north western Australia where she grew up.

"Mahood takes us to a landscape known by white people only as a barren and

alien place of no value - except to mine for minerals.

She shows us another way

to look at it, through the eyes of the traditional owners as well as

the perspective of an artist ..." Sydney Review of Books.

Thank you for reading, your time and support are much appreciated ....
